Cosmetic Surgery – Choosing a Board Certified Cosmetic Surgeon

April 29, 2009

A physician can claim to be “Board Certified” or claim to be a “Cosmetic Surgeon”  or “Plastic Surgeon”, but there are a lot of boards by which a physician can be certified, not necessarily having much to do with plastic surgery.  You want to go to a plastic surgeon who has had extensive training and experience in plastic and cosmetic surgery,  and who have aquired the certifications which are the gold standard in the plastic surgery world.

Physicians who are Certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery and are members of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons and The American Board for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery have been highly trained to stay within the most stingent parameters of safety and results while performing cosmetic procedures such as breast augmentation, breast reduction, breast reconstruction, tummy tucks, liposuction, face lifts, Botox and filler injections and many other procedures.  They meet or exceed the requirements for experience and continued medical education.

If you are considering any cosmetic or plastic surgery procedure, please make sure you do your homework and choose a surgeon with the respected qualifications and surgical skills necessary to keep you safe.

Dr. Edward A. Levy is certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery and a member of the prestigious American Society of Plastic Surgeons and the American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery.  Be safe, be smart and look good!

More Children in Guatemala will Receive Cleft Lip Surgery from U.S. Board Certified Surgeons in 2009

January 19, 2009

While costs for plastic and cosmetic surgery are not usually covered by U.S. insurance companies, several board certified surgeons across the United States will travel to Guatemala on a mission in February 2009 to help children who have cleft lip palates.

Celebrating their 10th year, Smile Train, a volunteer organization that provides grants to organizations such as ASPS and their member board certified surgeons to travel and train in Central and South American countries, will provide a generous $1 million this year.

Board certified surgeons get advanced training working with local children and families in Guatemala, Columbia and other South American countries who need this special surgery and otherwise could not afford.

ASPS member surgeons are encouraged to contribute their time on one of several mission trips planned throughout 2009.

For more information on Smile Train and cleft lip surgeries being performed by board certified surgeons in other countries, read the following article from PlasticSurgery.org.
